Social media is pioneering a digital future
It is no doubt that social media has drastically changed our society but may prove to be problematic for our coming generation. In the near future, many more jobs will open up related to the digital world, whether it be web design or web engineering. This future will be much more oriented towards implementing more and more digital products which will supplement the starting creation of what we have now. The struggle with this is the fierce competition and the narrow skill set that is not currently taught in school. Although this will lead to better results because of the increased competition, more effort will need to be put forth in order to reach a similar status. In essence, a college education may be necessary for a decent standing career. In conjunction with this, people will need to watch out for what they post in social media. People utilize their social media in many different ways, but some use it as a blog of their personal life. Although as a teen this may be acceptable, an upcoming adult entering the job market needs to be careful of the content they put out to the world. An employer can easily find the profiles of their potential candidates and one seemingly harmless joke can turn into rejection from a business. According to the National Labor Relations Board, various cases resulted in employees being fired, demoted, or removed from departments as a result of their online shares and posts. Balancing professional and personal social media presence will be an extremely important goal for young adults entering the market.
I am a professional video editor, and I must say, this topic is quite interesting. Youtube has become such a large platform for sharing videos. Regardless of if you call Youtube social media, it is certainly part of the digital wave of the future. I think that with the growth of social media, the growth of Youtube was just as prevalent. As it continues to grow, more and more people will look towards graphic design or video editing as a potential career rather than just a hobby like when it first started. I understand that the topic was more focused on companies hiring people for advertising and such, but as a video editor, I thought it would be nice to share my thoughts on my current situation.
